A new community focused on farming is springing to life in Morrow, Ohio.
According to Leslie Ratliff, this is the region’s first “agri-community.”
The land has been in Ratliff’s family for generations and with her background in home building, she said this plan is a perfect fit.
“One of the things I’ve seen in the home-building business and that I hear a lot is people are lonely in communities. People pull into their garages, shut the door and you never see them again,” said Ratliff. “Our belief is that it is important to know where your food comes from. It’s important to have good solid healthy foods.”
Each home in the community will have its own area to plant and harvest food, and the brunt of the work will be taken over by a professional farmer.
More than 40 vegetables will be grown and there will be cattle, pigs, sheep, turkey and grass-fed rabbits all on-site, sold fresh for the communities’ dinner table.
According to Ratliff, much of the estate will serve a purpose in the community.
“So, our goal was to use the main home as a community center and then we have these other buildings where we would like to do a wellness and education buildings and combine community with connecting to the food and a healthier lifestyle,” Ratliff said.
Pendragon homes is looking to begin construction this fall, with the first residents possibly moving in as soon as late 2017.
Cottage homes start in the $300,000 range with manor and estates as much as $500,000.
The first tours of the farming community begin Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m.
